Remote work is becoming the new trend and the freelancing and entrepreneurial route have skyrocketed over the past couple of years. More now than ever I see many diving headfirst into the game with no background or resources to help them stay afloat. Ultimately, putting people in a very uncomfortable and not so welcoming place.

The Dream Is Not What It Seems

Running your own business, having employees, flexible scheduling, and the comfort of working from home or anywhere in the world. Sounds like an all exclusive package to the career of your dreams, and yes although all of this is entirely attainable and possible, the reality isn’t the same for everyone.

Not everyone has a comfortable, ergo dynamic home environment to work from, traveling and working isn’t as easy as it seems. There are a lot of factors that go into it.

I have been freelancing and traveling while running my business for the past 5+ years and although you learn a few tips and tricks over time I still run into constant obstacles such as

▪️ Running into technological issues

▪️ No internet

▪️ Not having the right, quiet environment for your work

▪️ Adjusting to time zones and climate differences

These are all factors one should consider when wanting to travel while running your own business. I would not recommend this especially if you are just starting off.

The Learning Curve

Big tip I learned when I first started freelancing was “fake it till you make it”

In the beginning, this will be a big part of your business, figuring things out as you go and truly taking the time to learn from your mistakes. There is a lot of internal and external work that needs to be done in order to get yourself up and running and a big part of that is studying, researching, and pivoting your business when necessary. Everyone’s business and ideas work differently, so there isn’t always a one size fits all solution for this, you really have to get your hands dirty and go from there.

Burnout Is a Real Danger
